On Friday I lost my hard drive and all my accumulated space stamp images and scans; found some in time for today’s post, and a new source of images. Will need to rescan my collection though, so none of those for a bit….
This set of stamps hails from Antigua & Barruda, and celebrates the inaugural launch of Space Shuttle Columbia (and presumably, all the goodies it can carry up with it.) The date at the top is a week after Columbia landed from mission STS-5, but apart from that I’ve no clue about the significance of that date, or why it’s there. (Maybe that was the issue date?) I’m almost certain by STS-5, NASA ditched the white paint on the external tank (saving much weight, I might add), so I would presume the launch image represents STS-1 (April 12, 1981) rather than STS-5.
